Holy Week in Cartoons

Isang Tasang Kape/ Pitik Bulag

The Holy Week, which commemorates the Passion of Christ, is one of the most important and most solemn events for Christians. Some Filipino artists found it fitting to draw their own meaningful interpretation of the sacrifices the Christ had to go through for the salvation of mankind.

The Facebook page Sining ni Sid related Palm Sunday, the beginning of the Holy Week, to the political realities in the Philippines.

Tarantadong Kalbo, for his part, drew his childhood experience during the blessing of the “palaspas.”

Meanwhile, Isang Tasang Kape compared the plight of Filipinos from bad governance to the whippings experienced by Jesus in the hands of the Roman soldiers.

Latagaw’s cartoon portrayed the “life of Juan dela Cruz” and how he is being betrayed by all those near him similar to the scene of the “Last Supper.”

Lastly, Cartoonist ZACH asserted that the life, the teachings and the death of Jesus is political.
